VICTORY

Victory is the successful achievement of a goal after overcoming challenges or opposition.
 1 Cor. 15.57 – But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
There is no victory without opposition . Our opposition is Satan , Jesus won the victory over him and gave us His victory.

Victory is living in the triumph that God has given through Jesus Christ. It is not merely the absence of problems but the ability to overcome sin, Satan, the world, and every challenge by faith and obedience to God.

An important truth

Spiritual victory is not a feeling or a one-time event. It is a daily walk of depending on Christ. The Christian does not fight for victory as though Christ has not won; rather, the Christian fights from Christ’s victory, enforcing what He has already accomplished through His death and resurrection. So it’s safe to call believers “the enforcers of Christ’s victory.” This kind of victory must be first settled in your heart before it can reflect here on earth. The Christian life is like a movie scripted by God titled Victory. But before, we must follow the instructions of the director. God is the one directing the movie through the person of the Holy Spirit. The Bible presents spiritual victory in several ways:

 

1. Victory over sin: Through Christ, believers are no longer slaves to sin but have the power to live righteously (Romans 6:14).
Rom. 6.14—For sin shall not have dominion over you, for ye are not under the law but under grace.

 

2. Victory over Satan: Jesus defeated the devil through His death and resurrection, and believers stand in that victory as they resist the devil in faith (James 4:7).
Jas. 4.7 – Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Colossians 2:15 In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.

 

3. Victory over the world: Faith in Jesus enables believers to overcome the world’s temptations and pressures (1 John 5:4–5).

1 John 5.4—For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
1 John 5.5—Who is he that overcometh the world? But he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God.

 

4. Victory over fear and discouragement: God’s presence gives courage and peace even in difficult circumstances (Isaiah 41:10).
Isa. 41.10—Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

 

2 Tim. 1.7—For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

 

5. Victory over death: Through Christ’s resurrection, death no longer has the final word for those who belong to Him (1 Corinthians 15:54–57).

 

1 Cor. 15.54—So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, “Death is swallowed up in victory.”

1 Cor. 15.55—O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

1 Cor. 15.56 – The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.

1 Cor. 15.57—But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

 

A believer is still victorious even in death. It’s a win-win for a believer. 

 

“No guilt in life, no fear in death,

This is the power of Christ in me;

From life’s first cry to final breath,

Jesus commands my destiny.

No power of hell, no scheme of man,

Can ever pluck me from His hand:

Till He returns or calls me home,

Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand.”

 

One of the clearest biblical definitions is found in 1 Corinthians 15:57:

“But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

 

A believer is still victorious even in death

 

Rom. 6.4—Therefore, we are buried with him by baptism into death: that, like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

But mind you even though Christ has won the victory for us, the devil is not giving up, He is still going round like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. 

1 Pet. 5.8 – Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

So there is still a fight, not for victory but from victory.

Like we said, we are now enforcing the victory Christ wrought for us, and in order to do that effectively, we must put on the enforcer suit called the armor of God.

Eph. 6.11 – Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

Eph. 6.12 – For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, and against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Eph. 6.13 – Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Eph. 6.14 – Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

Eph.6.15 – And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

Eph. 6.16 – Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

Eph. 6.17 – And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Eph. 6.18 – Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; 
We shall be looking at each of these amours throughout this month and the next.
